A Trinamul Congress worker was killed allegedly by members of a rival faction in the party at Kaliganj in Nadia district on Thursday night while he was returning home riding pillion on a motorbike.

Tauhid Ali Seikh, 32, died on the spot near Gaharpota in Debogram and his close aide Manirul Haque, who was riding the motorbike, suffered critical injuries in the attack. Haque was admitted to the district hospital in Krishnagar.

Police said assailants had first hurled bombs at the duo and then stabbed them repeatedly. The family members of Seikh and Haque alleged that the Trinamul chief of Debagram panchayat, Moinuddin Seikh, was behind the attack. They lodged a specific police complaint against Moinuddin and his close aides.

Moinuddin rejected the charges. “The murder was over personal rivalry.”
