Amid the ongoing outrage over the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital another horrifying incident has emerged in Nadia’s Bhimpur where a young homemaker was allegedly raped and fatally injured at her residence on Thursday night.

The crime, which occurred late in the night, came to light on Friday morning when the victim’s mother-in-law found her unconscious in a pool
of blood.

The woman was found in a severely injured state, with deep wounds on her head, allegedly inflicted by the
assailant using a brick, apparently in an attempt to destroy evidence.

She was rushed to Nadia District Hospital in an unconscious state, prompting doctors to refer her to a hospital in Calcutta.

She succumbed to her injuries on the way.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, police have arrested one of her neighbours and have questioned him.

Sources said that the victim’s husband, a migrant worker, was not there at the time of the incident.

According to the police, the victim was sleeping at her house with her son when the attacker struck.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attacker entered the house by cutting through the corrugated roof. After assaulting and raping the woman, the attacker bludgeoned her with a heavy object.
