Three persons died and several others were injured when a goods truck plying on the wrong flank of NH12 collided with an auto which crashed into a motorcycle following the impact of the collision in Murshidabad’s Suti on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred on the Jangipur-bound flank of the highway in Ahiran.
Sources said two persons riding on the bike died on the spot. Later, an auto passenger succumbed to injuries at the Jangipur subdivisional hospital, while other passengers remain admitted at the facility — three in a critical condition.
“The truck that careered off the road and fell into a canal following the crash has been seized. The driver has fled,” said a Jangipur police officer.
Two of the deceased have been identified as Akher Ali Siddiqui, 50, and his wife Kabita Biwi, 44, who were from Suti. The third one remains unidentified.
