Police on Sunday arrested Jan-e-Alam Mollah, the prime accused in the twin murders of Mograhat in South 24-Parganas on Saturday, from Calcutta.
Police sources said Mollah, who had allegedly killed civic volunteer Barun Chakraborty and his friend Maloy Makal, was trying to flee to a neighbouring state when he was intercepted on the way near Tollygunge with the support of Calcutta police.
On Saturday, the two friends were dragged into the deserted office room of a construction firm owned by Mollah. He and his aides allegedly shot Barun and Maloy and slit their throats.
Multiple sources in the area said the duo were killed as they wanted Mollah to return Rs 60,000 that he had taken from them as a business investment.
Superintendent of police of Diamond Harbour police district Abhijit Banerjee said: “We formed a special team to track the prime accused Jan-e-Alam Mollah. The team headed by additional SP (zonal) spotted his location by tracking his mobile phone and
zeroed in on an area near Tollygunge on Sunday afternoon.”
