Over the past few years, the state has been organising this district-level conclave to encourage investments in different sectors. Officials of different departments attend the event and interact with entrepreneurs to address issues flagged by them.

Administrative sources said discussions would be held for investments in tea, tourism, horticulture and some other sectors for these two districts.

“Simultaneously, government officials will listen to members of the business fraternity. If they are facing any problem or inconvenience, appropriate steps will be taken to resolve such issues,” said an official.

The business fraternity has welcomed the initiative.

“For constructions, obtaining the land use compatibility certificate (LUCC) is necessary. Earlier, we used to get it from the local panchayat. Now, the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority has been authorised to issue the LUCC. However, we are not getting it. This issue must be addressed,” said Kishor Marodia, the general secretary of North Bengal National Chambers of Commerce and Industries.

Bijoygopal Chakraborty, the Confederation of Indian Small Tea Growers’ Associations president, suggested that the state should explore developing homestays insmall tea plantations to create rural jobs.
