A woman has alleged that a group of five youths molested her, snatched her gold chain and assaulted her husband and a friend on Sarat Ghosh Garden Road, in Kasba, early on Sunday.

The 28-year-old woman, a resident of Fern Road, mentioned in her complaint lodged with Kasba police station that they were travelling in a car when they were attacked around 12.15am.

Her husband was driving the Hyundai Grand i10.

The driver of another car was honking, signalling that he wanted to go ahead of them, the woman’s husband said.

“The road was very narrow and there was hardly any space for the car to overtake us. A little later I gave the car some space,” the businessman recounted.

The other car, a Tata Manza, stopped in front of the Grand i10. Five youths came out and allegedly started abusing the businessman and his friend, who was seated beside him.

“At one point, they dragged out my friend and beat him up. As I stepped out, they assaulted me, too,” the businessman said.

The husband said he was surprised that residents of the area had not come to their rescue. The businessman, his friend and wife managed to get into the car and flee while the youths allegedly kept kicking and thumping the vehicle.

A police officer said they had received a complaint from the woman that the youths had outraged her modesty. “The youths had wrongfully restrained the two men who were with the woman. An investigation is on,” he said.

No one was arrested till late on Sunday.
