Music, acts, dance and many new friendships.
Midnapore Medical College and Hospital welcomed its new batch of 150 students with a splash. Young boys and girls, most of them straight out of school and away from home forged a new bond with their address for the next five years.
The one-day freshers’ programme — Anastomosis 2K18 — was organised by the students’ union in association with The Telegraph You. The event made the students feel at home and interact with ease with seniors and peers.
“We have been away from home for the last five months and the freshers’ programme made us more comfortable with our seniors and peers,” said Ishan Kumar, a first-year student from Purulia. “We got introduced to many, interacted with them and also spent some time together,” he added.
The final event was on November 19, but the students organised a number of pre-fresher events for a fortnight that set the tone for the final day.
The 14-day carnival on the college campus included photography, quiz, poster-making, writing and antakshari and in the final day there were cultural events and interactions with the seniors. The best ones were adjudged Miss and Mr Fresher.
“The idea of the fest is to make the first-year students feel at home and have some ice-breaking moments between them and the seniors. The programme is mostly organised by the second years,” said Satyaki Sanyal, general secretary of the students’ union that organised the
fest.
Through the various events the first-year students also get an idea about how to organise such events and it introduces them to the
“culture” of the college and helps “build and strengthen,” bonds amongst the different years.
The contribution is made by the seniors to host this event and it’s a spontaneous participation by the seniors. The first-year students are not charged a subscription fee.
The programme was inaugurated by principal Panchanan Kundu.
After classes, the second-year students were engrossed in activities such as decoration, making posters, arranging for music and making other preparations that continued well past midnight.
“We had to prepare content and posters for the social networking site,” said Shouvanik Maji. “We did not mind losing out on sleep to make it an event worth remembering for the first years,” he said.
