The board of the two La Martiniere schools will hold its first meeting with the four newly nominated acting governors on July 5.
Most Reverend Prem Chand Singh, moderator of the synod of the Church of North India (CNI); Alwan Masih, the general secretary of the synod; Reverend Abir Adhikari, the vicar of St Paul’s Cathedral; and Terence Ireland, the principal of St James’ School were nominated as acting governors by the two permanent ex-officio governors of the board at a meeting at Bishop House on Chowringhee Road on June 21.
The principals of the two La Martiniere schools and Supriyo Dhar, the newly reinstated secretary of the two institutions, are likely to be invited to the meeting.
Routine matters related to the school administration will be discussed after the new acting governors are introduced, said Reverend Paritosh Canning, the bishop of the Calcutta Diocese of the CNI.
The two permanent ex-officio governors of the board — the bishop of Calcutta and the presbyter in charge of St Andrew’s Church, Calcutta — withdrew the nominations of the previous four acting governors on June 18, allegedly because they had objected to a decision to remove Michael Shane Calvert from the post of secretary of the schools and reinstate Dhar.
The acting governors whose nominations were withdrawn are Gerry Arathoon, secretary and chief executive of the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations); Anjali Das, principal of United Missionary Girls High School; Suchitra Guha, former Tata Steel HR head; and Anil Mukherji, the Tolly Club CEO.
Reverend Canning had said the nominations had been withdrawn because the previous management had not followed rules.
