The chairman of the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority said on Monday that a meeting would be held next month to discuss the redevelopment of the Bidhan Market, the largest market in the city.
“Next month, we will hold a meeting with all stakeholders of the Bidhan Market regarding its redevelopment. We will discuss as to how the work can be carried out,” SJDA chairman Bijoy Chandra Burman said.
The market that houses around 3,800 shops and hundreds of makeshift stalls is located on a seven-acre plot. The land is owned by the SJDA.
In 2014, the then north Bengal development minister, Gautam Deb, had mooted a plan to rebuild the market with a proper planning and new infrastructure like appropriate connection roads and parking space.
But the project couldn’t be launched because of non-co-operation of some traders.
