Massive fire breaks out at a cafe in Park Centre near Park Street in Calcutta, no one injured

A fire broke out on Tuesday morning at Park Centre on the crossing of Park Street and Camac Street junction, near Allen's Park.

According to Calcutta Police, the fire broke out around 10.35 am at rooftop cafe, which is located in the building. No casualties have been reported yet.

At least nine fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the blaze, first spotted around 10.50 am, an official said, adding that a disaster management team has also been deployed there, reports PTI.

Traffic movement is being monitored.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Division), Calcutta Police, Priyabrata Roy confirmed no one was present inside the building when it caught fire. As a precautionary measure, adjoining buildings were evacuated and cooking cylinders inside the restaurant were brought out from the blaze before they could cause further damage.

People from nearby residential buildings and offices came out on the street in fear.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and they are still working, the official said.
