A 41-year-old man standing on the footboard of a bus fell on the road while getting off the vehicle at the crossing of Lalbazar Street and RN Mukherjee Road on Monday morning. Asish Ghosal was taken to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital with injuries. Cops seized the bus.

Mayor Firhad Hakim inaugurated an English-medium school of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation on Priyanath Mukherjee Road on Monday.

Building fire

A fire broke out on the first floor of a two-storey building on Nimtala Ghat Street on Monday morning. Two fire tenders doused the flames, police said. No one was trapped or injured.

CMC plan

The Calcutta Municipal Corporation is mulling a mobile application that would help its inspectors access records of vehicles parked illegally at night and locate their owners.

The night parking time slot, as decided by the corporation, is between 10pm and 7am.

5 held in raid

A salon and spa on Short Street was raided and five persons arrested on Monday for allegedly running a sleaze racket. The accused included the spa owner, two touts and some customers. Three women were rescued. The accused have been booked under sections of the Immoral Trafficking Act.

Cop help

A sergeant of the Ultadanga traffic guard helped a Madhyamik candidate fetch her admit card from home, where she had left it. Sergeant Chaitanya Mallick, on realising that examinee Suman Kurrey had forgotten her admit card, contacted her mother and went to their Tangra home to collect it and bring it to the exam centre.
