A 78-year-old resident in Cooch Behar district was hacked to death allegedly by his son on Friday night.
Sources said Abhiram Das, a resident of Nayaneshwari village under Tufanganj-I block, had a property-related dispute with Laxman, his son.
Neighbours said they heard the duo quarreling. One of them entered Abhiram’s house to find the elderly man lying in a pool of blood. Laxman, his son, stood with an axe.
“I somehow grabbed him. Others joined me. We then called the police,” said the neighbour, who didn't want to be named.
Every day, Abhiram used to dine at his married daughter’s place. On Friday night, as he didn’t turn up, Sujala, the daughter, suspected something was amiss.
“I rushed to our home and learnt my brother had murdered my father," she said, adding that they would often quarrel over property.
Police recovered the body and arrested Laxman.
