Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has reiterated that the result of the Sagardighi bypoll has proved that the Trinamul Congress is the only political party that can battle the BJP and accused the Congress and the Left Front of forging an alliance with the saffron party.

“Don’t point fingers at me because of one election. The BJP, the Congress, and the CPM have come together. How will the Congress or the CPM fight the BJP? There is only one party, the Trinamul Congress, that will continue the battle,” she said in the Assembly on Monday.

This was the second time since the Sagardighi results were declared on Thursday that Mamata accused the Opposition of forming an “unholy alliance” to defeat her party.

In her speech in the Assembly, Mamata also referred to the recent arrests of Congress leader Koustav Bagchi and ISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui. Without naming Bagchi, who was released on bail within eight hours after he was arrested from his residence in Barrackpore on Saturday for allegedly circulating slander against the chief minister, Mamata has said while everyone has the right to speak, no one has the right to “speak ill” of others.

“There must be decency, courtesy, and gentleness while one speaks,” Mamata said.

Bagchi was arrested on a complaint lodged by a Trinamul worker at the Burtollapolice station. The Congress spokesperson had allegedly maligned Mamata during a news conference on Friday.

While tearing into the BJP, the CPM, and the Congress, Mamata said members of certain religious sects were coming into the Opposition camp.“The Congress is the A-Teamof the BJP. The CPM is theirB-Team. And in between, some people from different religions are their C-Team. They come and go on a monthly basis,” she said.

According to the chief minister, the Centre was inflicting its investigation agencies on Trinamul for political vengeance.

Referring to the recent EDraid on the office and the residence of one of the standing counsels of the Bengal government, Mamata said it was timed to coincide with the Meghalaya Assembly election results. “By chance, we had performed well in the Meghalaya polls.... That’s why the house of a standing counsel of the government was raided for 36 hours. Just after the results were out, they left. I heard that they raided the residence ofRabri Devi today,” she said.
