West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday congratulated her nephew and party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for starting a new mass outreach campaign from April 25 ahead of the panchayat polls.

Abhishek Banerjee will kick start a new campaign, 'Trinamul ey Nabajowar' (new wave in Trinamul) from Tuesday which will continue for two months.

During the campaign, he will travel nearly 3,500 km and hold more than 250 rallies across the state.

“TrinamooleNaboJowar is a first-of-its-kind political campaign, and I want to heartily congratulate @abhishekaitc & all the party workers for embarking upon #JonoSanjogYatra, which will traverse across the state,” Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

“We aim to usher in a new wave of progress and development at the grassroots, for which we humbly seek the blessings of the people of Bengal to succeed in this endeavour,” she wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Thanking the TMC supremo, Abhishek said the party is determined to ensure that welfare initiatives reach all households regardless of caste, creed, or religion.

"Thank you Didi! We are resolute in our determination to ensure that your welfare initiatives reach all households regardless of their caste, creed, religion, or political association. WB has and will continue to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others to emulate," he tweeted.

Mamata Banerjee is addressed by people as ‘Didi’ (elder sister).

Last week, Abhishek, considered to be the party’s No 2 leader, said the programme will empower common people to decide TMC candidates for the Panchayat polls through secret ballot.

The TMC national general secretary is scheduled to travel to Cooch Behar this afternoon.

The campaign will begin from Cooch Behar on Tuesday.
