“The chief minister was very upset with the way courts have been handing over probes to the CBI.... She asked senior leaders to ensure that the state’s version is represented in the court properly,” said a source.

According to government officials, Mamata decided to hold the meeting with the senior leaders, who are entrusted to handle cases filed against the state government in the courts, after five CBI investigations were ordered by Calcutta High Court since March 25.

“It is felt the state was not represented in the courts properly and that was why the CBI investigations were being ordered. Now, the three senior leaders would look after all cases filed against the state and would ensure that the state is represented properly in the court,” said a source.

The chief minister, sources said, has asked the three leaders to consult senior advocates or retired judges before framing the state’s replies in the courts.
