A woman in Malda district alleged on Monday that her 16-year-old daughter was made intoxicated and raped by her neighbour.

The mother, who filed a complaint with the superintendent of police on Monday, alleged the local police station had not acted on her complaint.

According to the woman, on July 13, the accused offered her daughter something to drink. The teenager lost her senses during which the accused raped her. "He then blackmailed my daughter by showing her some of her indecent photos and raped her again a number of times,” said the woman.

The mother said that on coming to know about the incident, she went to the accused's house with her daughter. “He offered us 5 lakh. As I refused, he tore my daughter's dress and assaulted her. We filed a complaint with the police but no action was taken. That is why we have come to the SP for justice,” she said.

SP Pradeep Kumar Yadav said the mother's allegation of cop inaction was incorrect. "The police began a probe. The girl's physical exam was done. We are in search of the accused,” said Yadav.
