A nine-member BJP delegation visited the disaster site at Malbazar and called on the bereaved families before training their guns on the Trinamul government for the loss of eight lives.

The delegation was led by state BJP general secretary and MLA Dipak Barman and included chief whip in the Assembly Manoj Tigga and local MP Jayanta Roy.

“We demand that the state government register an FIR against all those who changed the course of the river by setting up sand dams illegally.

It should also initiate a probe,” Barman told The Telegraph.

The BJP leaders met families of the eight victims and called on injured people at the local hospital in Malbazar.

Barman, sources said, will submit a report on the visit to state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar on Saturday, said sources.

Although Barman refused to disclose the details of the report, sources said he would suggest a thorough probe into the matter and may as well demand a CBI inquiry.
