Bengal director general of police Virendra and state government’s security advisor Surajit Kar Purkayastha visited Malda on Monday to take stock of the law and order.

Accompanied by other police officers, the duo visited the India-Bangladesh frontier at Mahadipur and spoke to the Border Security Force personnel.

The border has been sealed as part of the lockdown.

In Malda, there are international borders over a stretch of 170km.

Four BSF battalions guard the borders in the district.

After reaching Malda in a chopper around 2.30pm, Virendra and Purkayastha held a meeting with district police officers at the old circuit house where DIG (Malda range) Prasun Banerjee and superintendent of police Alok Rajoria were present.

Later, they went to Mahadipur where a closed-door meeting was held with BSF officers.

“We have come here to review the situation during the lockdown. We had a meeting to ensure that no one could enter the state through international or interstate borders. The situation in Malda is okay but we have to be careful,” Virendra said.
