The train came to a halt around 9.30pm with a loud noise. Animesh Hazra, a schoolteacher who was returning to Mecheda, said: “The train got derailed and stopped with a loud noise. We had to walk about 3km to reach Kharagpur station. No alternative train was arranged for our return to our respective destinations.”
Many passengers got stuck at Kharagpur station for a long time.
