BJP national chief J.P. Nadda announced a 24-member core committee for the party’s state unit on Monday. The decision comes at a time when multiple senior leaders have complained that invitations to the core committee meetings are made based on the whims of state leaders.
State BJP chief and MP Sukanta Majumdar, the leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and national vice-president Dilip Ghosh — the three most prominent leaders of Bengal BJP — have been named on the list, apart from five state general secretaries, four Union ministers and the party’s chief whip in the assembly, Manoj Tigga.
However, the most interesting induction is presumably that of actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty, who is also a national executive committee member. Significantly, another actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly, has been dropped from the list.
Other NEC members inducted into the committee are Swapan Dasgupta and Anirban Ganguly. State general secretary (organisation) Amitava Chakraborty, his deputy Satish Dhond, MP Debasree Chaudhuri and former state president Rahul Sinha have also found a place on the committee.
National in-charge Sunil Bansal, the party’s minder for the state Mangal Pandey and his deputies Amit Malviya and Asha Lakra will be special invitee members of the \committee.
