The direct road connectivity from Siliguri to Kalimpong and Sikkim remained paralysed for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as the restoration of NH10’s damaged stretch at View Point was yet to be completed by the Bengal public works department (PWD).
“It will take time to restore the damaged stretch of NH10 at View Point. The work has started but it is getting affected because of consistent rainfall. We will try to work even during night hours so that movement of light vehicles can resume in the next couple of days,” said a PWD official.
Because of heavy downpours, there had been multiple landslides at different locations along the highway.
A 100m stretch of NH10 caved in at View Point in Kalimpong district on Sunday. The PWD is cutting the mountainside to widen the stretch.
