Trinamul Congress leader Kunal Ghosh on Saturday continued his attack on Sudip Bandyopadhyay and called for an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI into financial transactions of the North Calcutta MP during his hospitalisation in Bhubaneswar.

Ghosh who had expressed his desire to quit as the spokesperson and the general secretary of the party said Bandyopadhyay was hand in glove with the BJP.

“The bank accounts of Sudip Banerjee and payments made on behalf of him to Apollo, Bhubaneswar, must be investigated. When he was in custody, whether a large amount was paid to him or paid to the hospital on behalf of him or not, that should be probed. If it is found to be a fact, then it may be related to the coal scam and Banerjee should be arrested for further investigation,” Ghosh wrote on his X handle on Saturday morning.

Ghosh, who changed his X bio handle to journalist and social worker on Friday morning, threatened to move the court if the agencies did not investigate the payments.

During an interaction with journalists, Ghosh, however, refused to make any comment on the activities of Trinamul saying he was no longer the spokesperson for the party.

The attack comes just a day after Ghosh expressed his desire to resign from all his posts in Trinamul but reiterated his allegiance to chief minister Mamata Banerjee and the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Although it is not yet clear whether the party accepted his resignation or not, Ghosh made it clear that he wanted to work as a foot-soldier because he was a misfit in the organisation.

Launching a direct attack against Bandyopadhyay, the former Trinamul Rajya Sabha member said: “Certain leaders treat the party as their personal fiefdom. They are acting as if Trinamul is controlled by a select few. In North Calcutta, Sudip Bandyopadhyay appears more aligned with the BJP than being a true Trinamul MP.”

“Trinamul is fighting with the BJP on 41 seats in the state but in North Calcutta, it is BJP versus BJP as Sudip Bandyopadhyay is hand in glove with the saffron camp,” Ghosh added.

Ghosh, however, participated in a rally here on Saturday in preparation for the “Jana Garjan Sabha” on Brigade Parade Grounds in Calcutta on March 10. People of six wards of North Calcutta walked from Raja Bazar to Sraddhananda Park.

“I have always been a loyal soldier of Trinamul and will do whatever the party wants me to. I have been given the responsibility of a spokesperson and I tried to inspire the party workers in the remotest part of the state. On Friday night, a decision was made in a meeting that a procession would take place on Saturday afternoon. There will be public meetings throughout the state. This was done in a hurry and so we didn’t get time to inform all leaders,” Ghosh said.
