On this day, the ship Ann and Amelia left Calcutta bound for Britain. It had been launched in 1816 at Chittagong, following which it operated in trade in the "Far East". It was sold in Calcutta in August 1823.

The next year Ann and Amelia would sail from Cork, bound for Sydney, carrying about 200 male convicts. Among them was Jack Donahue, who achieved notoriety also in Australia as part of the "Wild Colonial Boys".

Next, Ann and Amelia was chartered by the British East India Company, for which it went on three voyages, travelling to Britain, China and India, among other places. On its third voyage, it sailed from Saugor (Sagar) in Bengal, bound for Britain, but was wrecked when very near home.
