Editor, biographer and historian Biharilal Sarkar was born on this day in Andul in Howrah district.
He got his FA degree from General Assembly’s Institution (now Scottish Church College). He worked in the editorial department of Bangavasi newspaper for three decades.

Sarkar is one of the earliest biographers of Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar. One of his works challenged the colonial narrative of the Black Hole Tragedy.
Among his other books are Shakuntala Rahasya and Titumir.
