On this day the ship Baring reached Portsmouth from Bengal, via Madras (now Chennai) and the Cape of Good Hope.
The ship had been launched in Calcutta in 1805 as Alexander Brodie. When its ownership passed into Portuguese hands, it was named Asia Felix. It was sold again and the owners, British, named it Baring.
It made a voyage for the East India Company in 1811-1812, starting from Portsmouth in July 1811 and reaching Diamond Harbour on January 13, 1812. Later, it entered private trade. According to one record, it would be used in transport service and would be sold to the government. It was lost in 1814.
