The wooden bridge that connects the island at Eco Park and cuts across a section of the 112-acre water body will get repaired, an official at Hidco said.

Hidco is the custodian of Eco Park in New Town and is also in charge of its maintenance and day-to-day operations.

The island houses two restaurants, several cottages and a glass hall to host
programmes.

The restaurant, Cafe Ekante, opened in 2015. Visitors can get on a boat from the main jetty near Eco Park’s gate number 2 or cross the bridge on foot to reach the
restaurant.

The 22 cottages on the island can be booked for overnight stays.

Another restaurant, themed around a houseboat, also operates from the island.

The wooden bridge connecting the island was also built in 2015.

“We had been carrying out regular maintenance of the bridge. This year it will get a complete overhaul,” said a senior Hidco official.

According to the official, the overhaul will be done at night and the bridge will not be completely shut.

Sections of the bridge will have its wooden pathway removed and new units
replaced.

“The modular bridge can be taken apart in sections. While a section will be removed and replaced with new panels, the older sections will not be disturbed so that visitors can use it,” the official said.

The estimated cost of the repairs is 16.90 lakh. Work will start in the next couple of weeks and will be completed before Durga Puja.
