A woman filed a complaint of extortion and kidnapping against three men, including a Trinamool Congress youth leader, on Thursday.
The woman, is a resident of Howrah and her family runs a business in Posta, the police said.
According to the complaint filed by Latika Devi Patil at Posta police station, the accused leader and two others had promised to get a legal document for her son against payment, said a senior police officer.
Patil has alleged that Tarun Tiwari, the youth leader, and his two accomplices had offered to help her son get the legal document against a payment of ₹3 lakh, the police officer said.
For some reason, the woman could not pay the entire amount.
The three allegedly confined Patil’s son in a building in Posta and asked his mother to pay the entire amount, the woman alleged in her complaint.
“We did not get the document we were looking for. Despite that, the trio called my son to Posta and demanded ₹3 lakh. That time we could pay only ₹2.5 lakh. They kept on threatening my son and kept him in confinement. My son was also forced to sign a document saying he had wilfully given the money to them,” Patil said.
When Patil went to get her son freed, she too was kept confined at the building.
They were threatened with dire consequences if the remaining amount was notpaid, Patil alleged in hercomplaint
Only after Patil and her son signed a document they were allowed to leave, alleged Patil.
The police said they received the complaint on Thursday and have started an investigation.
Calls to Tiwari seeking his reaction to the allegations went unanswered.
