Woman drugged and gang-raped by four men on Kali Puja, Police arrest two

Police said the arrested duo worked as daily wage earners, and the victim is unemployed at present

A woman has alleged that four men raped her after she went to meet a man she had befriended on social media.

She alleged that she went to meet her social media friend on Kali Puja and was taken to an apartment and served drinks laced with sedatives.

According to police, two men have been arrested based on her complaint, while a search is on for the other two accused.

The complainant is a 30-year-old woman.

The woman met her social media friend on November 1 when the alleged crime was committed, the police said.

“According to the complaint, the woman had gone to meet a man she had befriended on social media. They met at a location planned to visit Kali Puja pandals. But from the spot, the woman claimed, she was taken to an apartment where she was served with a drink spiked with sedatives,” said an officer of Narendrapur police station.

The woman alleged that she was gang-raped by four men and left in the apartment.

The woman called her family members and managed to reach home.

On November 3, the woman and her family members filed the complaint. She was taken to hospital for a medical examination, the police said.

A case of gang rape has been recorded at the police station of the area.

The woman could identify two of her alleged perpetrators, the police said.

“We received a complaint of gang rape on November 3 based on which two persons have been arrested. A search has been launched to arrest the other two persons involved in the crime,” said a senior police officer.

Sources in the police said the call records of the two accused matched with the woman’s call records on the night of the alleged incident.

The woman recorded her statement before the magistrate in a court on Tuesday.

The statement of a rape victim that has been recorded before the magistrate is considered as primary evidence.

The police said the duo who had been arrested worked as daily wage earners. The victim is unemployed at present, she told the police.

They were produced before the court on Tuesday and later remanded to police custody.

A senior police officer said the identities of two other accused were established.
