A man riding a two-wheeler died after a truck hit the vehicle near the Chinar Park intersection early on Friday, police said.
Zakir Hussain died of injuries at Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital, the police said.
He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the police said.
The truck had turned left at the Chinar Park intersection and was headed towards City Centre I from VIP Road.
Hussain was going towards the airport and was riding along the wrong flank when the accident happened, the police said.
An official of the Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital said that Hussain had already lost consciousness when he was brought to the hospital.
“He had lost a lot of blood from a head injury. He had lost consciousness when he was brought here,” said the
official.
Two-wheelers riding down the wrong flanks of major arteries such as the Major Arterial Road and VIP Road is not a rare sight, the police said.
A senior officer said they prosecute errant bikers regularly on VIP Road as well as in New Town.
