The police on Friday evening increased the number of cops guarding the site where the junior doctors are camping near Swasthya Bhavan after Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh played an audio clip in which two persons were heard “planning an attack on the protest site”.

“We have started a suo motu case at Sector V police station after the clip surfaced. An investigation has been started and a man arrested,” the officer said.

The accused has been identified as Sanjib Das, alias Bublai. The 37-year-old is a resident of Haltu Garden Road.

The police installed additional CCTV cameras near the protest site.

An officer said they have increased the number of personnel in front of Swasthya Bhavan.

The police have deployed Rapid Action Force (RAF) contingents, personnel from the Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR), women cops as well as several Radio Flying Squad (RFS) units.

In addition, police patrol units from Sector V police station are regularly on patrol in the area.

Badana Varun Chandrasekhar, joint commissioner, headquarters, Bidhannagar commissionerate, told Metro on Friday that they have stepped up surveillance at all entry and exit points around the protest site.

“We have increased surveillance. Additional CCTV cameras have been installed to ensure the safety and security of everyone who is there,” Chandrasekhar said.

The police have also spoken with the protesting doctors and asked them to form a team of volunteers who will be in touch with them.

Aniket Mahato, a protesting doctor, said they have formed a team of a dozen volunteers to liaison with the police directly.

“The police asked us to form a team of volunteers. We have already formed the team and the members will act as points of contact with the police,” said Mahato.

Ghosh said at the press conference that he had credible information that Left and ultra-Left parties were conspiring to attack the doctors to defame the Trinamool Congress and the state government.
