A lawyer for Sanjay Roy, the lone accused chargesheeted in connection with the rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has appealed for permission to visit the place of occurrence of the crime before the trial commences on November 11.
“Our prayer to visit the place of occurrence in the hospital has been granted by the court. We will coordinate with the CBI and fix a date and time to visit the spot,” said Roy’s lawyer Kabita Sarkar.
Roy, a suspended civic volunteer of Kolkata Police, has been charged with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor who was on night duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 8.
The woman was found dead inside the third-floor seminar hall in the emergency building of the hospital. The spot is now in the custody of the CBI.
Earlier this week, the Sealdah court completed the process of framing charges against Roy and fixed sections of murder, rape and causing death or a persistent vegetative state. If convicted, he could be sentenced to death.
Roy’s defence lawyers had also appealed to the court for access to CCTV footage that had been collected by the investigating agency and submitted before the court as evidence.
