Four doctors, with whom the raped and murdered postgraduate trainee at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital had her last meal, appeared before a CBI team on Friday. They were questioned on Thursday, too.
The CBI officials also questioned 13 employees of RG Kar.
Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar, whose ouster was one of the key demands of the protesting junior doctors, went to the CBI office at the CGO complex in Salt Lake on Friday.
Ghosh was at the CGO complex till late on Friday evening while others were allowed to leave, said CBI sources.
Calcutta High Court handed over the case to the CBI on Tuesday.
It began the probe by examining government officials and doctors who were part of the team that was present during the postmortem of the 31-year-old doctor.
Ghosh was seen coming to the CGO complex in a car belonging to the CBI.
Sources said Ghosh had been issued summons to appear before the agency but he did not respond to the summons.
Ghosh told the investigators that he wanted to comply with the summons, but
could not as he was feeling insecure.
A counsel for Ghosh pleaded before a bench head by the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, T.S. Sivagnanam, on Friday that his client be given police security as he was apprehending attacks on him.
The court did not pass any such order and asked Ghosh to approach the police.
Among others who appeared before the CBI on Friday was the head of the chest medicine department, who too had come on Thursday.
Some of the members of the special investigation team (SIT) of Kolkata Police also appeared before the investigators on Friday.
The Kolkata Police had formed the SIT to conduct its probe into the rape and murder of the doctor.
A team of CBI investigators also went to the seminar room of RG Kar on Friday. The seminar room is the scene of crime.
There were concerns that it may have been vandalised in the attack at the hospital early on Thursday but senior officers of the Kolkata Police said on Friday that it was untouched and sealed.
The CBI team carried a 3D laser device to the seminar room. Sources said the device was taken there to reconstruct the crime scene.
The team also conducted a detailed examination of the crime scene.
A team of the central agency led by an officer of the rank of joint director visited the residence of the victim on the northern fringes of the city on Thursday and spoke to her family members for more than an hour.
Sources in the CBI said the family was questioned in detail about the last six months of the doctor’s life.
“They were asked if she had shared details of why she was under pressure in the past few months. They were also asked if they suspected anyone,” said a CBI source.
The central agency examined the young doctor’s diaries, notebooks and other belongings for possible clues that could help them in the investigation.
