Hundreds of techies and office goers in Sector V stepped out of their workplaces and marched on the roads on Monday evening, demanding justice for the young doctor who was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Many who participated in the rally carried candles, posters and banners.

“Whatever I dress; Wherever I go; Stop means Stop; No means No,” read a banner.

The rally started from the main gate of Webel Bhavan in Sector V’s EP and GP block and wound its way towards the Godrej Waterside before reaching the College More
intersection.

Several women who work in Sector V offices and have to travel back home late said that they had stepped out as “they wanted to ensure that their safety does not take a backseat after sundown and to ensure that anyone who is involved in the rape and murder of the young doctor gets the punishment of the highest order.”

“We often work night shifts. On most days I travel back to my home post-midnight,” said Bisakha Choudhury, a software engineer who works in a Sector V firm and stays in Garia.

Many passersby also joined the rally where participants chanted “We want justice” at intervals.

Narayan Bhattacharya, who works for a multinational company with offices in Sector V, said that despite the inclement weather people did not complain.

“It was drizzling and there were puddles. We had no option but to step on them
while walking. Despite this nobody complained,” said Bhattacharya.
