“The real estate developer had been trying to extort 3 lakh from us. We did not pay the amount as the construction of our apartment is still incomplete,” the woman said in her complaint.

The woman told Metro on Tuesday that she was “very unwell” and had been visiting the doctor on and off after the incident on Monday night.

“We had told him (the promoter) that we would pay the amount only after the construction was complete which is yet to happen. I am completely traumatised by the Monday night incident,” she said.

According to her complaint, Apu Das, the real estate developer, and his men barged into her home on Monday night and started assaulting her husband for not paying 3 lakh.

She was attacked after she tried to intervene, the woman has alleged.

Police, during the investigation, found that the complainant and her husband had purchased two flats in an apartment on Gobra Gorosthan Road in Topsia.

“Each apartment was purchased for 12 lakh. The family paid 21 lakh and took possession of the flats. They are now living in a portion of the apartment as the construction is yet to be completed. The promoter had been demanding the remaining amount that the family has been holding back citing incomplete work,” said an officer of Topsia police station.

“The matter involves a dispute between a promoter and his buyer. There was a non-payment issue over which an altercation broke out. We have received complaints from both the parties. A case and counter case has been started,” said the deputy commissioner (southeast division) of the Kolkata Police, Bholanath Pandey.

Police sources said the real estate developer had claimed before the police that he
was being cheated.

He claimed that he is yet to get 3 lakh from the couple.

Officers said a probe has been launched into the complaints of both sides.

No one was arrested till Tuesday evening.

Metro could not contact the real estate developer for his reaction.
