Pravrajika Premaprana took over as the sixth president of Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission on Tuesday.
Born in 1940, her pre-monastic name was Rupali.
Initiated by Pravrajika Bharatiprana, she joined the order at the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matribhavan in 1964.
She was later recalled to the headquarters in Dakshineswar to serve Pravrajika Bharatiprana, the first president of Sri Sarada Math.
Pravrajika Premaprana received brahmacharya in 1968 from Pravrajika Bharatiprana and was given sannyasa in 1973 by Pravrajika Mokshaprana.
In 1990, Pravrajika Premaprana was transferred to the newly established centre of Ramakrishna Sarada Mission in Gangarampur in South Dinajpur. She was appointed secretary of the centre in 1993.
To improve the lives of villagers on all fronts, Pravrajika Premaprana launched several projects, including a dispensary, a primary school and a vocational training centre for women.She also organised numerous relief activities after natural calamities.
Pravrajika Premaprana was appointed a trustee of Sri Sarada Math and a member of the governing body of Ramakrishna Sarada Mission in 2017. She was elected vice-president of the order in April 2024.
On Tuesday, many nuns and devotees turned up at the Math in Dakshineswar to offer their prayers to Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda for the wellbeing of the new president.
