Four public interest litigations were filed in the high court on Monday seeking a CBI probe into the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Two of the petitions were moved by BJP leaders and the others by two lawyers of the high court. One of the lawyers, Phiroj Edulji, is a central government panel lawyer.
The BJP leaders who moved PILs are Suvendu Adhikari, leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, and Kaustav Bagchi.
A high court source said the petitions are likely to be heard on Tuesday.
Edulji has sought an order to the state government to hire civic volunteers following the Scotland Yard rule in regard to recruitment of policemen.
“Civic volunteers should be recruited after thoroughly investigating their background,” Edulji said.
A civic volunteer is behind bars for the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar hospital.
