Light rain with the occasional thundershowers is likely in Calcutta on Durga Puja, the Met office said on Monday.

A Puja-specific forecast for Calcutta was issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore.

It says: “Partly cloudy sky with light to moderate rain/thundershower” is likely in some areas on October 9 and 10.

“Partly cloudy sky with light rain” is likely to occur in some areas on October
11 and 12.

This year, Saptami falls on October 10. Ashtami and Navami will be on the same day, October 11.

The forecast for October 12 (Dashami) is “partly cloudy sky with very light rain in some areas”.

A Met official said the showers are unlikely to be heavy.

“The rain may not be uniform. One place in the city might get drenched and another place may remain dry at the same time,” he said.

The conditions are likely to be similar in rest of south and north Bengal, the Met bulletin said.

The monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of northwest India and some parts of central India.

“But the monsoon currents are still active in our region. The usual date of the withdrawal of monsoon from south Bengal is around October 15,” said a Met official in Calcutta.
