Over the next three days, he was under the supervision of a team of doctors who remained tentative about the officer regaining vision in his left eye.

Officers said the Kolkata Police chief wanted to know what challenges Chakraborty was facing in his recovery and how he was responding to the treatment.

Verma also spoke to Chakraborty’s family and assured help and cooperation of the Kolkata Police in seeing the young officer resume duties, fit.

“He has an injury in his eye. I came to meet him along with other senior officers. He is recovering from the injury and we are very hopeful,” Verma said while interacting with reporters outside the house.

“Rejoining duty will take time but his recovery is good,” Verma said.

Besides Chakraborty, sergeant Sourav Saha of Kolkata Police’s detective department sustained eye injuries, and constables NabakumarMondal and Ujjwal DeySarkar received injuries on the head and eye and head, respectively, during the Nabanna March.
