A junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the army posted at Command Hospital in Alipore has been arrested for allegedly smashing the window of a car that was being driven by an actress and trying to outrage her modesty on Southern Avenue on Friday night.
The police identified the JCO as M.I. Arasen.
The woman told The Telegraph on Saturday that she was headed to a skin clinic on Southern Avenue when Arasen, who was on a red motorcycle, overtook her car at a high speed and stopped the two-wheeler right in front of her vehicle.
“The biker blocked my way in front of 27A Southern Avenue. The man got off the bike and started tapping on my window very loudly. I lowered the window by a few inches and he started abusing me and asked me to step out. I got scared and rolled the window up when suddenly he started punching it. At one point the glass shattered,” the actress said.
She said Arasen was trying to put his hand inside and drag her out when bystanders and passersby stopped him.
The woman took to Instagram and Facebook and streamed the incident live.
“At one point the man tried to flee but the passersby and residents did not let him go. They called the cops,” the woman said.
She then went to Tollygunge police station and lodged a complaint, after which Arasen was arrested. He was granted bail on Saturday.
The JCO also lodged a police complaint against the woman.
An officer of the Eastern Command of the army said the matter will be tried in an army court as well.
A police officer said Arasen told them that the car was being driven erratically and had hit him on his knee. “He said he tried to stop it as he feared the driver couldcause an accident. He also said he did not realise that a woman was at the wheel as the car had tinted windows,” said the officer.
