The young doctor whose body was found in a seminar hall at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday was her parents’ only child.
The father spoke to Metro about his daughter, who he said had always aspired to become a doctor:
She was extremely sincere with her work and studies. She did her MBBS from a medical college in a district in Bengal and then got an opportunity to do her postgraduation at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
She was so happy when she enrolled at RG Kar hospital.
We tried to ensure that she travelled in a car and would not have to avail of public transport.
On Thursday, too, she left home in the family car. (The hospital is around 15km from the woman’s residence.)
She did her schooling at a Bengali-medium institution. Her aspiration was to become a doctor.
She had spoken to her mother last night, as she would do on other days. She had never complained of any problems at her workplace. Had she been under any stress last night, she would have told her mother. Instead, she told her mother to have dinner and go to sleep.
She was supposed to return home today (Friday) afternoon. But as luck would have it, we are sitting in front of her lifeless body.
We want justice for our daughter. She did not deserve this. We want the truth to come out.
I wonder why the hospital authorities had initially told us that she had committed suicide. What were they trying to hide?
