Former officer-in-charge of Tala police station Abhijit Mondal was admitted to the hospital at Presidency correctional home on Thursday after he complained of chest pain.
Sources in the correctional home said Mondal was shifted to the jail hospital inside the Alipore facility on Thursday morning and kept under medical surveillance.
“Mondal was lodged in a cell at the correctional home after returning from Sealdah court on Wednesday. He started complaining of chest pain in the morning. We have shifted him to the jail hospital. Doctors have said he would be under observation for the next 48 hours,” a correctional services department senior official said.
The development came on a day when Kolkata Police posted Malay Kumar Dutta as the officer-in-charge of Tala police station.
On September 6, Dutta, the then additional officer-in-charge of Shyampukur police station, was asked to also handle the tasks of the Tala officer-in-charge.
On Thursday, Dutta was formally posted as the new officer-in-charge of Tala police station.
Sources in the CBI said they were awaiting forensic reports of the CCTV footage of the Tala police station on August 9 along with the hard disc and digital video recorder before deciding when Mondal would be questioned next.
Senior officers in the central agency said the report was scheduled to reach CBI within a day or two.
The investigators would then go through the report before drawing up a questionnaire for Mondal and Sandip Ghosh, the arrested principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
“We are closely monitoring Mondal’s health status in jail custody. We plan to press for the custody of the two, including Ghosh, during the next hearing at Sealdah court on October 30,” a senior CBI officer said.
CBI on Wednesday told the Sealdah court that some of the documents related to the rape and murder of the junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital were altered and fake ones created at Tala police station.
