ED attaches Rs 163 crore in assets of alleged middleman in school recruitment irregularities

The ED arrested Roy in February when he was out on bail after the SupremeCourt granted it in November last year in a CBI case against him

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has “provisionally” attached properties worth 163.20 crore belonging to Prasanna Roy, an alleged middleman in the irregularities in recruitment in state-aided schools under the school service commission (SSC), the central agency said on Saturday.

The ED arrested Roy in February when he was out on bail after the SupremeCourt granted it in November last year in a CBI case against him.

Presenting him before a court dealing with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the ED had said Roy allegedly collected over 100 crore from thousands of candidates by promisingthem jobs in different categories in state-aided schools across Bengal.

Roy, who owns a travel company in New Town, wasallegedly linked to over 90 companies and ED officials said he was a director in over 80 companies till 2018.

The central agency had said Roy had allegedly arranged jobs for nearly 2,081 candidates.

On Saturday, the central agency said hotels and resorts, over 200 land parcels andseveral flats and shops of Roy and his wife Kajal Soni Roy, and a company controlledand operated by Roy, named Shree Durga Dealcom Pvt. Ltd. were provisionally attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The value of the attached properties is 163.20 crore, the central agency said in a statement.

The ED earlier attached properties worth 230.6 crore in the case related to alleged irregularities in the appointments of assistant teachers and another 151 crorein a separate case aboutalleged irregularities inthe appointments of primary teachers in state-aidedschools.
