The transport department will launch a project enabling commuters to book tickets and track the movement of private buses on 10 city routes through the Yatri Sathi mobile app.
So far, the state government app has been restricted to state-run buses only.
On Tuesday, state transport officials asked the owners of private buses of the 10 routes to provide all relevant data for the project.
“We want passengers using the Yatri Sathi app to have more options. The app, so far, was restricted to state-run buses only,” a senior transport department official said after a meeting with the private bus owners on Tuesday.
“This is a pilot project and we want to see how successfully state-run and private buses can be integrated on a single app to benefit the passengers,” he said.
The 10 routes include Howrah station to Barasat; Salt Lake to Rajchandrapur via Belgharia Expressway and Bally Halt; Garia to airport; Howrh to airport; Golf Green to airport; Howrah Maidan to airport gate number 1; Garia to Rajchandrapur; Barasat to Shapoorji; airport to Nabanna and Karunamoyee to Rajchandrapur.
Commuters must select their routes and pay through UPI to receive a QR-coded ticket. Bus conductors will scan the QR code to verify the ticket. Seats will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis and a pre-booked ticket will not guarantee a seat, officials said.
