The CBI on Thursday started examining government officials who were part of the team that was present during the postmortem of the young doctor who was

Two members of the forensic medicine department and the head of the hospital’s pulmonary medicine were summoned to the CGO complex in Salt Lake for examination in connection with the case.

Four young doctors were also questioned by the central agency at the CGO complex till late evening.

One of RG Kar’s forensic medicine officials said she was questioned on the post-mortem.

The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was found dead inside the seminar room on the third floor of the Emergency building of the hospital on August 9. Her body underwent post-mortem the same afternoon in the presence of a judicial magistrate. The process was videographed.

Following a Calcutta High Court order, the CBI took charge of the probe.

The police have handed over all the evidence and documents in connection with the case to the central agency. On Thursday, some members of the special investigation team of Kolkata Police were at the CGO complex in Salt Lake to submit a few more
documents.

A team of the central agency led by an officer of the rank of joint director visited the residence of the victim on the northern fringes of the city and spoke to her family members for more than an hour.

Sources in the CBI said the family was questioned in detail about the last six months of the doctor’s life. “They were asked if she had shared any details of why she was under pressure in the past few months. They were also asked if they suspected anyone,” said a CBI source.

The central agency examined the young doctor’s diaries, notebooks and other belongings for possible clues that could help them in the investigation.

The parents of the young doctor had earlier alleged that their daughter was unable to perform her duties in the hospital properly because of alleged pressure from some people and that as the only woman member of the team, she was facing problems in carrying out her duties with a team of male doctors.

The family had also alleged that on the day of her death, they were informed by the hospital officials over the phone that their daughter had committed suicide.

The CBI sleuths said they were examining all possible angles.
