Calcutta University on Tuesday published the results of the Bengali MA first-semester examination.

Following the publication of the results, the 104 students whose answer scripts in one of the four papers had been misplaced by examiners would be able to choose the highest marks scored in the remaining papers as the marks for the lost paper or take a retest.

The university will ask the colleges where these students study to speak to them about the two options.

The results of 850 students had been held up because of the alleged botch-up. The students wrote the tests in April.

“On Tuesday, we published the results of the 850 students who wrote the Bengali first-semester examination. Now that the results are out, the students whose answer scripts had been misplaced by the examiners can choose the highest marks scored in the remaining papers as the marks for the lost paper or appear for a retest,” said vice-chancellor Santa Datta.

A CU official explained the number of scripts that had been lost was 120 but the number of students affected was 104 because, in some cases, two papers of a particular student were lost.

“For students whose two out of the four papers have been lost, they will have the option of choosing the highest marks scored in the remaining two papers as the marks for the lost papers,” said the official.

The results were published a week after the higher education department asked the university to send an “action-taken report” detailing the steps taken by the university to protect the interest of students.
