Calcutta University has issued a notice, stating that outsiders will not be allowed to enter the university campuses without permission.
The order was signed by CU registrar Debasis Das.
Uploaded on the university’s website on Wednesday, it also prohibits unauthorised assembly or political activities on the university campuses.
Registrar Das said the notice was issued in compliance with an order of the Calcutta High Court that passed the order while hearing a case about the confinement of the CU’s interim vice-chancellor Santa Datta by the Trinamul students’ union supporters on August 2.
The VC had stopped coming to the campus for about a week after being gheraoed by the TMCP supporters who protested her continuance in the chair as she was appointed by the governor, allegedly without consulting the state government.
Registrar Das said they were enforcing the directives of the court that were delivered last week.
The notice says: “No outsiders shall be permitted to enter the university campuses
without prior permission. Outsiders may get permission upon submitting a requisition form at the gates or by sending mail to cuvisitors@gmail.com”.
“Unauthorised assembly and or political activities by outsiders are strictly prohibited inside the university campuses. Teaching and non-teaching faculty, students and all stakeholders shall carry proper identity cards and display the same at the time of entry to the campuses,” it said.
The notice said the teaching, non-teaching staff and students are prohibited
from organising or participating in any assemblies, within the university campuses, “other than those officially sanctioned”.
