The city received scattered rain in some parts and the sky remained cloudy since afternoon on Sunday.
The Met office said southwesterly winds were the reason for the moisture in the air that brought rain.
"There was localised rain in some parts because of the moisture that was carried by southwesterly winds. The clouds were at an upper level of the atmosphere and not too thick. The clouds had started clearing by the evening," said H.R. Biswas, head of the weather section at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Calcutta.
The Met office announced the withdrawal of the monsoon from Bengal on Sunday.
"Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from entire West Bengal today, October 13, 2024," said a special message from India Meteorological Department, eastern region.
One of the signs of the withdrawal of the monsoon is a change in the wind pattern.
"The southerly, southwesterly and southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are gradually being replaced by northwesterly and northerly winds. The moisture content in the air will gradually go down," said a Met official.
“Sunday’s rain was caused by some remnants of the westerly winds, which will gradually recede.”
Many pandal-hoppers had to take a break for the rain to stop.
Despite the cloud cover, Sunday remained uncomfortable for many pandal-hoppers. Even during the drier parts of the day, the relative humidity was on the higher side.
"It was humid and uncomfortable. Stepping out of an air-conditioned car was not easy," a pandal-hopper in south Calcutta said.
