The attack took officers on traffic duty around Sealdah station by surprise. The cops tried to stop the one among the group who was armed with bamboo from pulling out the man seated inside the kiosk.

Later, officers informed Entally police station and that person from the group was arrested.

The police identified him as Biswakarma Shaw, 51, a resident of BB Ganguly
Street.

Officers said he was booked for damaging government property and stopping a government officer from performing his duty.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when a woman attempted to board a crowded private bus in Sealdah. She alleged that she was verbally abused and her modesty outraged by a passenger while boarding the bus.

Seargents on duty arrived at the spot, asked the bus driver to stop and asked the man accused of verbally abusing the woman to get off.

He was then taken to a traffic police kiosk for questioning.

Suddenly, a group of men reached the kiosk and demanded the person seated inside be released. They attacked with bamboo sticks followed when the police refused.

The woman, later, withdrew her complaint against the man.
