Alleged strongman Jamaluddin Sardar, from whom Trinamool has distanced itself, was arrested on Friday evening.

Jamaluddin has been accused of moral policing, holding kangaroo courts and brutally assaulting men and women in Sonarpur.

Police said he was picked up from a place in Baruipur that borders the Kolkata Leather Complex.

Sardar, who is an accused in multiple criminal cases, had been missing since allegations surfaced earlier this week that he had confined a woman with shackles in his house.

The police later received several such complaints.

Palash Dhali, superintendent of police, Baruipur police district, told Metro that Jamaluddin will be produced in court on Saturday. “We will seek his custody to extract more information related to the allegations against him,” Dhali said.

Jamaluddin's mansion, in the interiors of Sonarpur, has been locked since he went missing. Two forest department teams went there on Thursday to rescue two turtles that were allegedly kept illegally in a pool in the house. But they could not enter the house as it was locked.
