“Hoppipola, Chili’s and Time Zone, all of which have had some impact of the fire will take a few more days to reopen. They are still undergoing some renovation,” said an official of the mall.

“Wow Momo and Wow Chicken in the food court are also closed because of some internal restructuring of the retail outlets. They will open in a few days,” the official said.

The rest of the food and the multiplex — Cinepolis — also reopened from Saturday.

The mall authorities created a celebratory ambience on Saturday with a welcome gate. Children were offered balloons as they entered the mall.

Renovation work is still underway on portions of the third and fourth floors, said the official.

The fire directorate has suggested the mall authorities to increase the number of exhaust fans and their power and to keep provisions of more windows that can be opened, not sealed ones so that some can be opened easily in case of any emergency in future.

The fire brigade had to smash the glass of sealed windows when the fire broke to let the trapped smoke escape.

Till 8pm on Saturday, about 15,000 had visited Acropolis.

Kuntal Das, manager of the Spencer’s store at Acropolis said they sent text messages to their customers about the reopening of the mall.

Some of the visitors were elated at the mall’s reopening.

Subhajit Mukherjee, 36, a resident of Kalikapur who came with his wife Sramana, 31, were regular visitors during weekends before the fire forced the mall to close.

“We always preferred to come to Acropolis as they got many brands of our choice under one roof,” said Mukherjee.

The building, Acropolis, is divided into two sections. From the ground floor to the fourth floor is the mall. The fifth floor to the 20th have various offices.

The floors housing offices have a separate power connection that was unaffected by the fire. This section reopened on June 25.
